Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Sunday, March 12th.
In central Nebraska in Hall County, the COMMON CRANE was seen again
today, the 12th. Take the Wood River I-80 exit (Exit 300) and cross the
Platte River. The bird was located about ½ mile west of the
intersection of Denman Rd. and Highway 11. Denman Rd. is the first road
south of the river. If you see the bird, please notify the Nebraska

On the 12th in Adams County, the WHOOPING CRANE was seen again. Exit
I-80 at Wood River and go south on Highway 11 to the small town of Prosser.
Go east 2 miles and turn north on Schauppsville Road. The bird was
located near a farm with yellow out-buildings.
In western Nebraska on the 12th in Keith County, the TUFTED DUCK was seen
again on Keystone Lake near the diversion dam. An EARED GREBE was
spotted on the North Platte River east of the diversion dam on the 12th.
On Lake Ogallala, several RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were found. Also on
the 12th, 150 ROSS'S GEESE were seen in a flock of 450 SNOW GEESE in a
corn field south of Lake Ogallala.
In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 12th, a PINE
WARBLER was coming to a feeder in a yard south of Bellevue University.
Call (402) 291-2186 for information on seeing the bird. PILEATED WOODPECKERS
have recently been reported in Fontenelle Forest on trails north of Gifford Road.
In Washington County on the 12th at Neale Woods, 3 FOX SPARROWS and a
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW were found on the Missouri River Ecology Trail, and
2 GREAT BLUE HERONS and WOOD DUCKS were seen on River Trail.
In Clay County on the 12th, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER
were found at Massie WPA. On the 5th, a LE CONTE'S SPARROW was found at
Big Daddy's Ornithological Gardens.
In Lancaster County on the 11th, a ROSS'S GOOSE, RUDDY DUCKS, a
FRANKLIN'S GULL and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were found at Pawnee Lake SRA.
Also on the 11th, several flocks of GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, several
thousand SNOW GEESE and 3 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were seen at Branched Oak
Lake. Also at Branched Oak Lake, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was found at Area 7.
In Dixon County on the 11th, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW was seen northwest of Wakefield.
