Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, June 6, 2003.
In eastern Nebraska in Seward County a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was seen
on the 3rd and 4th about 7 miles east and a half mile south of Seward. A
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen there today, the 6th.
In Washington County on the 2nd, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD, a BLACKPOLL
WARBLER and 2 BOBOLINKS were spotted three miles north of Blair.
In Madison County on the 3rd, a pair of EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen
south of the Courthouse in Norfolk.
In central Nebraska in Kearney County on May 31st the following species
were seen at Prairie Dog WPA: 27 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, 40 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, 92 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 4 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 1 PECTORAL
SANDPIPER, 2 STILT SANDPIPERS, 7 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, 11 FRANKLIN'S
GULLS, a BURROWING OWL and 6 BOBOLINKS.
In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County a WHITE-WINGED DOVE has been
seen for the last week at a feeder in Gering.
On the 1st at Kiowa WMA south of Morrill the following species were
found: several CINNAMON TEAL, a SORA, a WILLET, a WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. Also on the
1st, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen half way between Mitchell and
Morrill at the Schmidt Implement pond.
In Chase County on May 29th the following species were found at Enders
Reservoir: WESTERN GREBE, 12 WHITE-FACED IBIS, several VIRGINIA RAILS, 2
AMERICAN AVOCETS, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, BELL'S VIREO, ROCK WREN,
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD and several YELLOW- BREASTED CHATS.
In Dawes County on May 30th at Box Butte Reservoir, 4 FRANKLIN'S GULLS,
BLACK TERNS and SWAINSON'S THRUSHES were seen.
In Council Bluffs, Iowa in Pottawattami County on the 6th, a pair of
SUMMER TANAGERS and a pair of SCARLET TANAGERS continue to be seen at the
Lewis and Clark Monument on Monument Road.
