Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Thursday, December 16th.
In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 16th, the male TUFTED DUCK was
spotted again near the east end of Keystone Lake. Large numbers of ducks
are still present on Keystone Lake including 2 male BARROW'S GOLDENEYES,
3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, BLACK SCOTER, SURF SCOTER and WHITE-WINGED SCOTER.
In central Nebraska on the 14th in Hall County, a COOPER'S HAWK, 12
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS and 7 BROWN CREEPERS were seen in Hall County Park.
Also on the 14th, 2 PINE SISKINS and 2 PURPLE FINCHES were seen in the
Amick Acres area. On the 15th, a PRAIRIE FALCON, 5 AMERICAN COOTS and 6
species of waterfowl were found at Wild Rose lakes.
In Iowa on the 16th south of Council Bluffs, 2 mixed flocks of about 100
LAPLAND LONGSPURS and HORNED LARKS were seen along Highway 370 east of the
Bellevue bridge. Also on the 16th, 2 HOODED MERGANSERS, an adult BALD
EAGLE and 2 HERRING GULLS were found at Lake Manawa.
