Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Sunday, December 26th.
In western Nebraska on the 24th in Keith County the TUFTED DUCK was seen
again in the southeast corner of Keystone Lake with a raft of diving
ducks. Other species seen in the area include a COMMON LOON, 17
TRUMPETER SWANS, 4 GREATER SCAUP, 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, a SURF SCOTER, 2
NORTHERN SHRIKES, a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and LAPLAND LONGSPURS.
In eastern Nebraska on the 24th in Cass County, 20 SNOW BUNTINGS were
seen southeast of Manley on 156th Street, 1/2 mile south of Highway 1.
On the 23rd in Douglas County at Neale Woods, a HERMIT THRUSH, a BROWN
THRASHER and 30 WILD TURKEYS were seen around the Nature Center and a WINTER
WREN was seen on the Missouri River Trail.
In Washington County on the 22nd, a SHORT-EARED OWL was seen north of
Nathan's Lake.
In Sarpy County on the 25th in Bellevue, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and a BELTED
KINGFISHER were found on North Stream Trail in Fontenelle Forest. On the
26th, 2 BALD EAGLES, a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, 2
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 6 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and 2 SONG SPARROWS were seen
in Fontenelle Forest.
