Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, November 29th.
In western Nebraska on the 23rd in Scotts Bluff County, 2 PACIFIC LOONS,
a BRANT GOOSE (western race) and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE were seen at
Lake Minatare. Also on the 23rd, a PACIFIC LOON was seen at Winter's
Creek Lake. On the 23rd, an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, 2 ROSS'S GEESE and 4
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were found at Kiowa WMA. On the 23rd, 4 PYGMY
NUTHATCHES were seen at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center.
In Sioux County on the 23rd, a FERRUGINOUS HAWK, a GOLDEN EAGLE, a
MERLIN, a PRAIRIE FALCON and 9 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were found.
In eastern Nebraska in Cedar County on the 27th, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was
seen above Gavin's Point Dam. Also on the 27th, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER
was seen on Lake Yankton.
In Knox County on the 27th, 28 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen at Niobrara
Marsh. On the 26th, 40 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen 7 miles east of
Creighton. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and 2 NORTHERN SHRIKES were also seen near
Creighton on the 26th.
In Sarpy County on the 28th, 16 BUFFLEHEADS, a COMMON GOLDENEYE, 2
KILLDEER and a COMMON SNIPE were seen at Chalco Hills Recreation Area.
In Lancaster County on the 28th, a COMMON LOON, 4 DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS, 8 species of waterfowl, including a COMMON MERGANSER, and 250
RING-BILLED GULLS were seen at Branched Oak Lake.
In Iowa north of Crescent on 27th, 8 BALD EAGLES, a GOLDEN EAGLE and a
MERLIN were spotted at the hawk watch at Hitchcock Nature Area. On the
29th, south of Council Bluffs, 3 COMMON LOONS, 2 COMMON GOLDENEYES and 8
BONAPARTE'S GULLS were found at Lake Manawa.
