Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, November 14th.

In western Nebraska on the 12th in Sioux County, a male BLACK ROSY-FINCH
was seen with 216 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES in southwest Sioux County.
Also seen in southwest Sioux County were a SHORT-EARED OWL, an AMERICAN
PIPIT and a SNOW BUNTING.

In Scotts Bluff County on the 12th, a RED-THROATED LOON, a PACIFIC LOON,
93 HORNED GREBES and a GREATER SCAUP were found at Lake Minatare. Also on
the 12th, a MERLIN was spotted in Carter Canyon.

In eastern Nebraska in Douglas County on the 14th, a juvenile/first
winter BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was found at Standing Bear Lake northwest
of Omaha. Also on the 14th, 10 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and 11 HOODED
MERGANSERS were seen at Cunningham Lake north of Omaha. On the 11th, 3
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES came to a feeder in the Chapel Hill area south of
Elkhorn. On the 8th, 200 SANDHILL CRANES flew over Riverside Lakes in
western Douglas County. In Sarpy County on the 12th, 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS
visited a feeder in Bellevue near Bellevue University

In Knox County on the 12th, 4 MERLINS, several thousand HORNED LARKS and
LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 3 SNOW BUNTINGS were found east of Creighton along Highway 59.

In Cuming County on the 14th, 3 BALD EAGLES were spotted along the
Elkhorn River south of Wisner.

In Lancaster County on the 12th at Pawnee Lake, 22 KILLDEER, a BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER, 35 DOUBLE- CRESTED CORMORANTS, 2 HOODED MERGANSERS and 2 HERRING
GULLS were found. At Branched Oak Lake on the 12th, a HORNED GREBE, 85
REDHEADS, 3 CANVASBACKS, 28 BUFFLEHEADS, 9 HOODED MERGANSERS, a
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK , a KILLDEER and a PINE SISKIN were seen.

In central Nebraska on the 13th in Buffalo County, a ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK was seen at a feeder in Kearney. On the 12th, 20 LAPLAND
LONGSPURS were found southeast of Gibbon. At Grandpa's Steakhouse in
Kearney on the 12th, 9 species of ducks were spotted along with an AMERICAN PIPIT.

In Iowa west of Missouri Valley at DeSoto NWR on the 14th, an AMERICAN
WHITE PELICAN, a HORNED GREBE, about 100,000 SNOW GEESE, a RED-BREASTED
MERGANSER, 7 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER were found.
On the 11th, 2 adult GOLDEN EAGLES were seen at DeSoto NWR. Also on the
14th, a flock of about 100 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen along Road # 362
southeast of DeSoto Refuge. On the 14th south of Council Bluffs, a
COMMON LOON, 6 HORNED GREBES, 64 BUFFLEHEADS, 7 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and
2 HERRING GULLS were seen at Lake Manawa.
