Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, October 24th.

In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County on the 23rd, a WESTERN GREBE, 3 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 2 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, a SEDGE WREN and 2 LE CONTE'S
SPARROWS were found at Chalco Hills Recreation Area northwest of
Papillion. On the 21st, a WINTER WREN, 2 HERMIT THRUSHES, 8 FOX
SPARROWS and 2 SPOTTED TOWHEES were also found at Chalco Hills. On the
22nd, 12 CATTLE EGRETS were spotted at Walnut Creek Recreation Area north
of Papillion. In Bellevue on the 22nd, an AMERICAN BITTERN visited a
backyard on Cascio Dr. southwest of Fontenelle Forest. On the 21st, in
Bellevue north of Logan Fontenelle School, an afternoon raptor flight of
an adult BALD EAGLE, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and 52 RED-TAILED HAWKS was noted
in an hour. Also on the 21st, an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW and a PURPLE FINCH
visited a feeder south of Fontenelle Forest.

In Washington County on the 21st at Boyer Chute NWR, a MERLIN, a WINTER
WREN, a SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 2 HERMIT THRUSHES, a BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 2
EASTERN TOWHEES and 9 sparrow species were seen including 10 LE CONTE'S
SPARROWS and 10 FOX SPARROWS.

In Lancaster County on the 21st at Branched Oak Lake, a WESTERN GREBE and 7
HORNED GREBES were seen. At Pawnee Lake on the 21st, a GREAT EGRET, a
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, a LEAST SANDPIPER, 1500 FRANKLIN'S GULLS and 2
BONAPARTE'S GULLS were spotted. In Saunders County on the 21st, 17
BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS were seen at Memphis SRA.

In Dixon County on the 21st, 7 species of sparrows including FOX SPARROWS
and AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS visited a fish pond on a farm northwest of Wakefield.

In the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 21st, 7 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a
PECTORAL SANDPIPER, a DUNLIN, 43 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 SEDGE WRENS and
a FOX SPARROW were found. In York County on the 21st, 175 BREWER'S
BLACKBIRDS were seen at Sinninger WPA. In Clay County on the 21st, a
SWAINSON'S HAWK was seen near Sutton.

In central Nebraska in Gosper County on the 22nd, 4 WESTERN GREBES, 120
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, 35 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 270
FRANKLIN'S GULLS, 14 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 4 HERRING GULLS were found at
Johnson Lake. Also seen in the areas around the lake were a GRAY
CATBIRD, 12 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS and a SPOTTED
TOWHEE. On the 21st in Buffalo County, an immature YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER was seen southeast of Gibbon.

In western Nebraska in Dawes County on the 22nd, 9 COMMON LOONS, a
CLARK'S GREBE, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER and 4 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were found at
Box Butte Reservoir. On the 22nd, in Sioux County, 9 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWKS, a NORTHERN SHRIKE and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were seen. Also on the
22nd in Scotts Bluff County, 13 COMMON LOONS were seen at Lake Minatare.
