Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Saturday, December 16th.

In western Nebraska in Sioux County on the 13th, 4 BLACK ROSY-FINCHES and
300 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were found at Wind Springs Ranch. Also on
the 13th, 3 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen in southern Sioux County.

In Keith County on the 13th, an EARED GREBE, a male TUFTED DUCK, 3
BARROW'S GOLDENEYES, first basic GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL (second Nebraska
record) and a first basic GLAUCOUS GULL were seen at Lake Ogallala, and
an EARED GREBE and a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER were seen at Lake McConaughy. On
the 14th, a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 2 BARROW'S
GOLDENEYES, an adult MEW GULL, a second-basic ICELAND GULL and 3 GLAUCOUS
GULLS were seen at Lake Ogallala. Also on the 14th, 172 WESTERN GREBES
were found at Lake McConaughy.

In Lincoln County on the 14th, 3 WESTERN GREBES, a fourth-basic LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL and 3 GLAUCOUS GULLS were found at Sutherland Reservoir.

In eastern Nebraska in Seward County on the 13th at Twin Lakes SRA, a
BOHEMIAN WAXWING was seen with 15 CEDAR WAXWINGS. Also on the 13th, a
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, a TUFTED TITMOUSE and a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
were seen at feeders in Seward. In Lancaster County on the 13th, a
PRAIRIE FALCON was spotted at the west end of Pawnee Lake. On the 12th,
3 BALD EAGLES, a LAPLAND LONGSPUR and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were found at
Branched Oak Lake. The Seward-Branched Oak CBC was held on the 15th and
the preliminary tally is 62 species. Highlights were: a MERLIN,
SHORT-EARED OWL (sitting on rocks at the edge of Branched Oak Lake),
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, COMMON REDPOLL and RED CROSSBILL.
Most of the good sparrows, finches, crossbills and blackbirds were seen in
a field planted for food for wildlife just north of the west entrance to
Twin Lakes SRA.

In Sarpy County on the 14th and 16th, a PINE WARBLER came to a suet feeder
in Quail Creek subdivision in south Bellevue. On the 16th, an adult
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, a CAROLINA WREN, a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and a
PINE SISKIN were seen at the Birdline feeders in Bellevue. Also on the
16th, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH visited a feeder southwest of Fontenelle Forest.

In central Nebraska the Harlan County CBC was conducted on the 15th and at
least 70 species were counted. some of the highlights include a GREAT
BLUE HERON, 5 ROSS'S GEESE, 200 BALD EAGLES, a MERLIN, a GREATER
PRAIRIE-CHICKEN, 2 KILLDEER, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, a THAYER'S GULL, 3
CAROLINA WRENS, a WINTER WREN, 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES, 3 YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD.

In Webster County on the 14th, a flock of 200 LAPLAND LONGSPURS was seen
along Highway 136.
