Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Sunday, December 24th.

In eastern Nebraska in Douglas County on the 24th, an adult NORTHERN
GOSHAWK was spotted at 216th and Maple St. west of Omaha. On the 21st , a
BROWN THRASHER visited a feeder in Waterloo. The Omaha CBC was held on
the 23rd and 59 species were tallied. Highlights were: 2 WOOD DUCKS, 22
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 LESSER SCAUP, 30 BALD EAGLES, 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS,
144 WILD TURKEYS, a COMMON SNIPE, 33 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, a NORTHERN
SHRIKE, 5 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 121 GREAT-TAILED
GRACKLES and 7 PURPLE FINCHES. On the 24th, a CAROLINA WREN was seen at a
feeder north of the Mormon Bridge. Also on the 24th in Neale Woods, 2
RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were found along the Jonas Trail.

In Washington County on the 24th, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2 SNOW BUNTINGS and
a LAPLAND LONGSPUR were found east of Fort Calhoun near Nathan's Lake. A
NORTHERN SHRIKE was found on the 24th, west of Boyer Chute NWR on Road P47.

In Sarpy County on the 23rd, a CAROLINA WREN visited a feeder in Papillion.

In Cass County on the 22nd, 12 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were still being
seen in Elmwood. On the 14th, 500 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen in fields
southeast of Elmwood.

In Seward County on the 19th, an immature YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and a
TUFTED TITMOUSE were seen at a feeder in Seward, and on the 17th, a MERLIN
was found on the outskirts of Seward.

In central Nebraska on the 17th in Hall County the Grand Island CBC
tallied 59 species. Highlights include: a NORTHERN GOSHAWK, a
FERRUGINOUS HAWK, a MERLIN, a PEREGRINE FALCON, 2 PRAIRIE FALCONS, a
COMMON SNIPE, 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES and a BREWER'S BLACKBIRD.
