Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, December 29th.
In eastern Nebraska in Dixon County on the 26th, 13 SNOW BUNTINGS and 4
LAPLAND LONGSPURS were found with a flock of 100 HORNED LARKS between 578
and 579 Avenues.
The Sioux City CBC was held on the 23rd and about 55 species were tallied
including the following: AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, HOODED MERGANSER, 4 BALD
EAGLES, a CAROLINA WREN a SPOTTED TOWHEE, 3 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, a SNOW
BUNTING and 10 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.
In Dodge County on the 27th, 20 HARRIS'S SPARROWS and 6 RED CROSSBILLS were
seen at a feeder east of Ames. Also on the 27th, 8 GREAT BLUE HERONS
were found at Fremont Lakes SRA.
In Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 28th, a CAROLINA WREN and 2 pairs of
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS visited a heated pond in Riverview Heights. Also on
the 28th, a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 2 CAROLINA WRENS and 2 WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS were seen at the Birdline feeders.
In Central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 19th, 10 GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLETS were found on the UNK Campus in Kearney. On the 22nd, a MERLIN
was seen in Kearney.
In Sherman County on the 24th, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was spotted about 4
miles north of Ravenna.
In Garfield County on the 24th, 10 GREATER PRAIRIE CHICKENS were seen
just south of Burwell. Two NORTHERN SHRIKES were spotted at Calamus
Reservoir on the 24th, one in Loup County and one in Garfield County.
