Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, April 24th.

In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 22nd, a TUFTED DUCK, 10 GREATER
SCAUP, 2 SURF SCOTERS and 6 OLDSQUAWS were seen at Lake Ogallala and
on the 23rd, an UPLAND SANDPIPER, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD and 3
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were seen there. On the 22nd, a BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS and 264 MARBLED GODWITS were found at Lake
McConaughy, and on the 23rd, a SNOWY EGRET was seen there. Also on the
23rd, a SPRAGUE'S PIPIT was found at the Clear Creek Marshes. In Scotts
Bluff County on the 22nd, 19 WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS were spotted at Scotts
Bluff National monument.

In eastern Nebraska in Fillmore County on the 22nd, a SNOWY PLOVER was
seen at Mallard Haven and 300 BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS were seen in a field
being plowed. Also on the 22nd in Clay County a SNOWY PLOVER and 2 CASPIAN
TERNS were found at Massie WPA. A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was singing at
Harvard WPA on the 22nd. Other birds of note found in the eastern
Rainwater Basin on the 22nd were 140 WILLETS, 47 HUDSONIAN GODWITS and 3
MARBLED GODWITS.

In Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 22nd, a GREAT EGRET, an OSPREY, a
BROAD-WINGED HAWK and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were found in Fontenelle Forest.
On the 23rd, at Chalco Hills Recreation Area, 2 WILLETS were seen and a
WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen north of Chalco Hills on Giles Road. On the
21st at Chalco Hills, 2 COOPER'S HAWKS and a HERMIT THRUSH were found. On
the 23rd at Walnut Creek Recreation Area, a COMMON LOON was seen. In
Douglas County on the 21st, a WHIP-POOR-WILL was calling near 84th and
Dodge in Omaha. In Washington County on the 21st, a YELLOW-THROATED
WARBLER was seen on the Missouri River Ecology Trail at Neale Woods.

In Lancaster County on the 22nd at Branched Oak Lake the following birds
were seen: 2 WESTERN GREBES, a HORNED GREBE, 8 EARED GREBES, a SANDHILL
CRANE, 3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS and 8 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS. At Branched Oak on
the 21st, 6 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS were displaying at area #9. On the 22nd
at Little Salt Fork Marsh, an AMERICAN BITTERN, a SORA, 3 HUDSONIAN
GODWITS and 3 SEDGE WRENS were found. On the 22nd at Pawnee Lake, a COMMON
LOON, 29 AMERICAN AVOCETS and 12 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen.

In Knox County on the 21st, 43 GREAT EGRETS, 2 SNOWY EGRETS, 15 CATTLE
EGRETS, 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, a WHITE-FACED IBIS, 14 GREATER
PRAIRIE CHICKENS, a SHARP-TAILED GROUSE, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, AMERICAN
WOODCOCK, 11 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and a WHIP-POOR-WILL were found.

In Dixon County on the 21st CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were seen northwest of
Wakefield and on the 23rd, a CHIMNEY SWIFT was spotted there. On the 23rd,
19 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 30 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 3 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS
were seen at Fahrenholz Ponds northwest of Allen.
Also on the 23rd, a GREEN HERON was spotted 1 mile south of Highway 29 on
582 Ave.

In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 23rd, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD
was seen 10 miles east and 3 miles south of Ravenna.

In Phelps County on the 23rd at Funk Lagoon the following species were
seen: 1 EARED GREBE, 8 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 17
WILLETS, 25 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 45 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 45 WILSON'S
PHALAROPES, 10 FORSTER'S TERNS, a MARSH WREN, an AMERICAN PIPIT and 35
GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES.
