Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, August 18th.

In eastern Nebraska in the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 12th the
following species were seen: an EARED GREBE, 41 GREAT EGRETS, 6 SNOWY
EGRETS, 8 WHITE-FACED/plegadis IBIS species, a HOODED MERGANSER, 4 SORAS,
a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 6 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 10 GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
100 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 68 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, 37 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS,
2 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 53 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 12 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 474
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 11 STILT SANDPIPERS, 97 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, 1
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 12 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 10 COMMON SNIPES, 9
WILSON'S PHALAROPES and 15 BOBOLINKS.

In York County on the 18th at Sininger WPA, 5 GREAT EGRETS, 13
WHITE-FACED IBIS, 25 BLACK TERNS and 10 species of shorebirds, including
22 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, were found.

In Lancaster County on the 13th south of Denton, 2 GREAT EGRETS, an
AMERICAN WOODCOCK, 4 UPLAND SANDPIPERS and 3 SEDGE WRENS were seen at
Spring Creek Prairie.

In Dixon County on the 13th, more than 100 CLIFF SWALLOWS, 4 LOGGERHEAD
SHRIKES, 7 SEDGE WRENS and 4 BLUE GROSBEAKS were found northwest of Wakefield.

In Douglas County on the 13th, 12 GREAT BLUE HERONS and a GREAT EGRET were
seen in a wetland on the north side of Cunningham Lake. In Sarpy County
in Bellevue this week, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was reported from
Fontenelle Forest.

In central Nebraska in Adams County on the 13th, an adult MISSISSIPPI
KITE was seen flying over the north edge of Hastings. Also on the 13th,
about 30,000 CLIFF SWALLOWS were seen at 32 Mile Creek Marsh. At Kenesaw
WPA on the 13th, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 2 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, 7
COMMON SNIPES and a MARSH WREN were found.

In Kearney County on the 13th at Jensen WPA, 15 SORAS, 8 UPLAND
SANDPIPERS, 2 COMMON SNIPE and 2 SEDGE WRENS were found. At Youngson WPA
on the 13th, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT- HERON, a PEREGRINE FALCON and 36 BLACK
TERNS were found.

In Buffalo County on the 17th, a SHORT-EARED OWL was seen southeast of Gibbon.

In Harlan County on the 13th, a WESTERN GREBE, 36 BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS, a juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a juvenile PEREGRINE
FALCON, an AMERICAN GOLDEN- PLOVER, 6 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS and a
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were seen at Harlan Reservoir.

In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 12th, a 1st alternate PACIFIC
LOON, 8 PIPING PLOVERS and 18 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen at Lake
McConaughy.
