Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, February 16th.
In western Nebraska on the 12th at Lake Ogallala in Keith County, the
male TUFTED DUCK was seen again along with GREATER SCAUP, an OLDSQUAW, a
CALIFORNIA GULL, a THAYER'S GULL, an adult GLAUCOUS GULL and a first
winter GLAUCOUS GULL.
In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 13th, PINE SISKINS and
HARRIS'S SPARROWS were seen 3 miles southeast of Gibbon. In the
southwestern corner of Phelps County about 1,900 HORNED LARKS, 500
LAPLAND LONGSPURS and a NORTHERN HARRIER were seen on the 13th. At Funk
Lagoon in Phelps County, 50 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, 1500 SNOW GEESE,
a NORTHERN HARRIER, a NORTHERN SHRIKE and 200 GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were
found on the 13th.
In eastern Nebraska in Dixon County on the 12th, 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS were
seen at Buckskin Hills WMA.
In Saline County on the 13th, a few SNOW GEESE, LESSER SCAUP, CANVASBACKS,
a MERLIN and HARRIS'S SPARROWS were seen at sand pits south of Wilbur.
In Sarpy County on the 13th in Bellevue, 3 BALD EAGLES and several
RING-BILLED GULLS were seen at Haworth Park. On the 14th, a DARK-EYED
JUNCO of the Gray-Headed race visited a feeder in Papillion.
In Iowa on the 13th south of Council Bluffs, 3 KILLDEER were found on the
west side of Lake Manawa. Six BALD EAGLES were also seen at Lake Manawa
on the 13th.
