Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, February 28th.
In western Nebraska on the 26th at Lake Ogallala in Keith County, the
male TUFTED DUCK was seen again along with 67 GREATER SCAUP, an OLDSQUAW
and an adult THAYER'S GULL. Also on the 26that Lake McConaughy, a COMMON
LOON, a CLARK'S GREBE and an adult THAYER'S GULL were found. On the 26th,
10 LONG-EARED OWLS were seen in a cedar grove north of Keystone Lake.
In Garden County on the 26th, 2 WINTER WRENS were found at Ash Hollow
State Park, and a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen at the Clear Creek Marshes.
In eastern Nebraska on the 27th in Cass County, 2 EURASIAN COLLARD-DOVES
were seen in Elmwood. They have been seen in the area for about a week.
In Douglas County on the 23rd, 3 GADWALLS, 3 HOODED MERGANSERS, an adult
THAYER'S GULL, 27 HERRING GULLS and 250 RING-BILLED GULLS were found at
Cunningham Lake.
In Sarpy County on the 21st, a NORTHERN SHOVELER, 3 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 139
REDHEADS, 2 CANVASBACKS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 10 HOODED MERGANSERS and 3 RUDDY
DUCKS were seen at Wehrspann Lake.
In Lancaster County on the 27th, GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, 6 RUDDY
DUCKS, 3 adult BALD EAGLES, 2 AMERICAN COOTS and 2 BELTED KINGFISHERS were
seen at Branched Oak Lake.
In Central Nebraska on the 27th, a TURKEY VULTURE and several thousand
SANDHILL CRANES were seen 5 miles east of Kearney.
