Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, January 14th.
In eastern Nebraska on the 12th in Douglas County, 2 TUNDRA SWANS were
seen on Carter Lake across from Eppley Airport in Omaha. These birds
have apparently been present for several weeks. At Neale Woods Nature
Center on the 12th, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, 2 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 12 CEDAR
WAXWINGS & a PURPLE FINCH were seen. On the 13th, a BROWN THRASHER was
still being seen at Neale Woods. Also at Neale Woods on the 13th, 2 BALD
EAGLES, a BELTED KINGFISHER & 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS were found on the
Missouri River Ecology Trail.
In Lancaster County on the 12th, 3 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, NORTHERN
PINTAILS, AMERICAN WIGEONS, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER & a NORTHERN SHRIKE
were seen at Branched Oak Lake.
In Cass County on the 11th, 12 BALD EAGLES were seen sitting in trees at
Louisville Lakes SRA. Birds seen around Elmwood on the 11th include, a
BELTED KINGFISHER, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, a COOPER'S HAWK, a RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCH & PINE SISKINS.
In Nemaha County on the 13th, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen at feeders
at Peru State College. On the 9th, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen in Brownville.
In Iowa on the 12th south of Council Bluffs, 5 TUNDRA SWANS & 35
RING-BILLED GULLS were seen at Lake Manawa.
