Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Sunday, January 23rd.

In eastern Nebraska in Dakota County on the 20th and 23rd, 2 EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVES were seen in Dakota City in the area about 4 blocks south
of the courthouse in the 400 block of S. 17th St. There have been 4
birds present for several weeks. In Dixon County on the 23rd, 300 HORNED
LARKS and 50 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were found 3 miles west and 4 3/4 miles north
of Wakefield.

On the 22nd in Knox County at Niobrara Marsh, 2 first winter GLAUCOUS
GULLS, a PRAIRIE FALCON, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, 6 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, a SWAMP
SPARROW, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD and 5 PURPLE FINCHES were seen.

In Dodge County on the 22nd, 3 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen just northwest
of Scribner in a cornfield south of the intersection of Highway 275 and
County Road E.

On the 22nd in Douglas County, 3 TUNDRA SWANS, a ROSS'S GOOSE and 2
AMERICAN COOTS were seen on Carter Lake across from Eppley Airport in
Omaha. On the 22nd, 2 CAROLINA WRENS were seen at a feeder in Millard at
120th and L Streets in Omaha. In Sarpy County on the 23rd, a NORTHERN
SHRIKE visited a feeder in Quail Creek housing area southwest of
Bellevue. Also on the 23rd, a COOPER'S HAWK was seen at Chalco Hills
Recreation Area. On the 22nd, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, a BARRED OWL, a
SWAMP SPARROW and a SONG SPARROW were found at Chalco Hills.

In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 22nd, 5 EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVES were seen at a feeder and on power lines in
Ogallala. These birds have been present since September. Please observe
the birds from the road in front of the house at 1101 E. 4th Street. On
the 20th, the TUFTED DUCK was seen again at Keystone Lake. Also seen at
Keystone Lake or Lake Ogallala on the 20th, were a SURF SCOTER, 3
OLDSQUAWS, a WINTER WREN and a HERMIT THRUSH.

In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 22nd, a few SANDHILL CRANES
flew over Rowe Sanctuary. On the 23rd in Buffalo County, HARRIS'S
SPARROWS were seen 3.5 miles southeast of Gibbon and 90 HORNED LARKS were
found 1/2 mile southwest of there. Also on the 23rd, 140 HORNED LARKS were
seen in the northwest corner of Kearney County.
