Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Thursday, July 20th.
In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 19th, a LAUGHING GULL in 2nd
alternate plumage was spotted at Lake McConaughy. It was seen from the
marina east of Omaha Beach. Also on the 19th, an adult LITTLE BLUE HERON
was seen from Omaha Beach.
In eastern Nebraska in Pawnee County on the 20th, a NEOTROPIC CORMORANT
was spotted at Burchard Lake Special Use Area. It was the only cormorant
on the lake and was seen in a tree on the south side of the north arm of
the lake.
In Clay County on the 16th, a singing HENSLOW'S SPARROW, 10 SEDGE WRENS and
4 MARSH WRENS were found at Harvard WPA. Other birds seen in the eastern
Rainwater Basin on the 16th were: 6 GREAT EGRETS, 4 SNOWY EGRETS, a
LITTLE BLUE HERON, 2 CATTLE EGRETS, 9 WHITE- FACED/plegadis IBIS, 2
HOODED MERGANSERS, 2 SORAS, a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 41 GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
500 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 28 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, a WILLET, 18 UPLAND
SANDPIPERS, 25 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 97 LEAST SANDPIPERS, a BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER, 51 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 13 STILT SANDPIPERS, 33 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES and 450 BLACK TERNS.
In Dixon County on the 15th and 16th, a male SUMMER TANAGER was seen at
Ponca State Park at the Three State Lookout point on the Missouri River
bluffs.
In Washington County on the 15th, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen at
Tyson's Elevator at 12thand Front St. in Blair. It has not been seen since
the 15th.
In Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 20th, 6 WESTERN KINGBIRDS and 38
GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were seen at the Haworth Park bike trail just south
of the marina area. On the 19th on the sod farm on the west side of the
Haworth Park bike trail, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, 6
LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a STILT SANDPIPER and a dowitcher
sp. were seen.
In central Nebraska in Phelps County on the 16th at Funk Lagoon, a CATTLE
EGRET, 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 8 FORSTER'S TERNS were seen at the east end
of the marsh. In the middle of the marsh, 1700 CLIFF SWALLOWS, 250 BANK
SWALLOWS and 60 BLACK TERNS were found. On the west end of the marsh, a
LEAST BITTERN, a WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 5 SWAMP SPARROWS and 40 YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS were found.
