Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, June 30th.
In central Nebraska on the 30th in Harlan County, a CLARK'S GREBE was
seen at Harlan Reservoir.
On the 25th in Phelps County, 9 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 9 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS and 2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were seen at Funk Lagoon. Also on
the 25th, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and a WILLOW FLYCATCHER were found
at Johnson WPA. On the 18th, 30 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 3 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS, 7 AMERICAN AVOCETS, 17 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, 18 BLACK TERNS, 60
SONG SPARROWS and 2 SWAMP SPARROWS were found at Funk Lagoon. North of
Funk Lagoon on the 18th, a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, a BELL'S VIREO and 2 NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRDS were seen.
In Buffalo County on the 19th, 8 GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were spotted a
mile east of the Gibbon I-80 Exit. On the 22nd, a BLUE GROSBEAK was seen
0.5 mile north of the Minden I-80 Exit. On the 25th, 2 BELL'S VIREOS and a
LEAST TERN were found at the Rowe Sanctuary.
In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 18th at Fontenelle
Forest, 4 PILEATED WOODPECKERS were seen flying south over the Great
Marsh. In Douglas County on the 26th, PINE SISKINS visited a feeder near
Cunningham Lake. On the 24th, WESTERN KINGBIRDS were spotted on the
perimeter road at Eppley Airport. In Washington County on the 28th at
Neale Woods, a CERULEAN WARBLER and a NORTHERN PARULA were singing at the
junction of Ecology and River Trails on the Krimlofski Tract. Also on the
28th, a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was singing on the River Trail loop on the
Krimlofski Tract.
In Seward County on the 19th, a WILLOW FLYCATCHER and 2 HENSLOW'S SPARROWS
were found at Meadowlark Lake.
In Clay County on the 25th, 2 MARBLED GODWITS were seen at Sandpiper WPA.
Also on the 25th, a GREAT EGRET and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER were found at
Harvard WPA.
In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County on the 16th, an adult PACIFIC
LOON in basic plumage was seen at Lake Alice. On the 15th, 19 CINNAMON
TEAL were found at Kiowa Springs WMA. Also on the 15th, a HOODED
MERGANSER was seen at a small pond southeast of Kiowa Springs. On the
15th, a LESSER GOLDFINCH was seen again at a feeder in Gering. On the
17th, a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was spotted at the Wildcat Hills Nature
Center south of Scottsbluff. In Sioux County on the 16th, 2 CORDILLERAN
FLYCATCHERS were found at Gilbert Baker WMA and 1 CORDILLERAN FLYCATCHER
was seen in Sowbelly Canyon.
In Kimball County on the 17th, 2 PINYON JAYS were seen in Singleton Ranch
Canyon north of Dix.
In Garden County on the 17th, a SNOWY EGRET was seen with GREAT EGRETS at
the Clear Creek Marshes. In Keith County on the 17th, a MISSISSIPPI KITE
was seen in Ogallala near the hospital.
In Cherry County on the 16th, a COOPER'S HAWK, 5 BLACK-AND-WHITE
WARBLERS, 3 OVENBIRDS and 5 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS were seen along the
Niobrara River between Valentine and Sparks.
In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 28th, 5 PIPING PLOVERS, 2 LEAST
TERNS and a BLUE GROSBEAK were seen at the MidAmerican south pond.
