Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Saturday, March 25th.
In central Nebraska in Hall County, the COMMON CRANE family was seen at
9:10 AM on the 25th in a field on Platte River Drive about a mile from
Highway 11. Later in the day the COMMON CRANE family was in the same
area about 0.5 mile further south. To find the field take the Wood River
I-80 Exit 300 and cross the Platte River. Continue south on Highway 11
about a mile until you come to Platte River Drive. Go west on Platte
River Drive to a point where the road turns sharply south. It is at this
corner where the birds are being seen. If you see the COMMON CRANE,

lpdlfrd@juno.com. On the 25th, a WHOOPING CRANE was spotted about 4
miles west of Doniphan on Platte River Drive.
In Kearney County on the 19th, a PALM WARBLER was seen in Fort Kearny SRA
on the hike-bike trail. Also on the 19th, a PRAIRIE FALCON was seen at
Lindau WPA.
In eastern Nebraska in Knox County on the 24th, 25 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 8
LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 7 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were found in Niobrara just west
of the Intersection of Highways 12 and 14.
In Douglas County on the 23rd, a CAROLINA WREN and a FOX SPARROW were found
in Spring Lake Park in south Omaha. Also on the 23rd, a COMMON LOON, a
HORNED GREBE and 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen at Cunningham Lake.
In Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 22nd, an EASTERN PHOEBE was seen in
Quail Creek subdivision. On the 20th, 3 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were
seen on Offutt Base Lake. In Fontenelle Forest on the 20th, PURPLE
FINCHES were singing on North Stream Trail.
In Washington County on the 23rd, 6 GREAT BLUE HERONS and 7 species of
ducks, including 3 HOODED MERGANSERS, were found at Nathan's Lake. Also
on the 23rd, a FOX SPARROW was seen in Neale Woods on the Krimlofski Tract.
In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 24th, several AMERICAN WOODCOCKS
were seen and heard on the south side of Lake Manawa. On the 25th south of
Bartlett, about 150 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS and several GREATER YELLOWLEGS
were seen at Forney Lake. At Riverton WMA on the 25th, a GREAT EGRET,
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and TREE SWALLOWS were found.
