Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, March 29th.
In central Nebraska in Hall County, the COMMON CRANE family was seen
again on the 26th in a field on Platte River Drive about 1.5 miles from
Highway 11. To find the field take the Wood River I-80 Exit 300 and cross
the Platte River. Continue south on Highway 11 about a mile until you
come to Platte River Drive. Go west on Platte River Drive and begin
looking for the birds after you turn right at the T intersection. This
will be the last update of the birdline until April 5th. To get more
information on the status of the COMMON CRANE you may call the Crane
Meadows Nature Center at 308-382-1820. Also on the 26th, a WHOOPING
CRANE was spotted near the area where the COMMON CRANE was seen and
another was seen on I-80 between exits 300 and 305.
In western Nebraska on the 25th, the TUFTED DUCK was seen again on
Keystone Lake in Keith County along with a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE and 5
LONG-TAILED DUCKS.
In eastern Nebraska in Dodge County on the 25th, AMERICAN WOODCOCKS were
seen at Powderhorn WMA. On the 29th in Douglas County a PURPLE MARTIN
was seen in the Florence area of northeast Omaha.
In Iowa on the 25th, about 150 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS and several GREATER
YELLOWLEGS were seen at Forney Lake south of Bartlett. At Riverton WMA
on the 25th, a GREAT EGRET, PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and TREE SWALLOWS were found.
