Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Saturday, May 13th. The next birdline update will
be on May 23rd.
In eastern Nebraska in Richardson County on the 12th at Indian Cave State
Park the following species were seen: an ALDER FLYCATCHER, 4 CAROLINA
WRENS, 12 WOOD THRUSHES, 72 TENNESSEE WARBLERS, 5 NORTHERN PARULAS, a
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 2 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 4 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS,
a CERULEAN WARBLER, a WORM-EATING WARBLER, a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, a
MOURNING WARBLER, 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS, 3 SCARLET TANAGERS and 11 SUMMER
TANAGERS.
In Douglas County on the 11th at Towle Park in Omaha a MOURNING WARBLER
was seen. On the 10th, a BOBOLINK was spotted at the north end of
Cunningham Recreation area south of Pawnee Rd. On the 10th at Hummel
Park north of Omaha, a KENTUCKY WARBLER was heard singing at the west end
near the picnic shelter. In Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 11th in
Fontenelle Forest, a 2 YELLOW- CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and 2 LITTLE BLUE
HERONS were seen on the Great Marsh. In Washington County on the 10th a
drake HOODED MERGANSER was seen at Nathan's Lake.
In the eastern Rainwater Basin in Clay County on the 10th, 334
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 6 RUDDY TURNSTONES were found at Harvard WPA.
Also on the 10th, a SNOWY PLOVER was seen at Massie WPA. In Fillmore
County on the 10th, a BLACK-NECKED STILT was seen at Mallard Haven WPA.
In central Nebraska in Phelps County on the 12th at Funk Lagoon an
AMERICAN BITTERN, a BLACK- CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and 9 species of shorebirds
were found including 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS. On the 10th, a CINNAMON
TEAL and a PIPING PLOVER were seen at Funk Lagoon. On the 12th, a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, a LARK BUNTING and 3 BOBOLINKS were seen at
Sacramento-Wilcox WMA.
In Harlan County on the 12th, 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS were seen with WILSON
PHALAROPES at the Alma south sewage pond. On the 11th, a GREAT EGRET, a
SPOTTED TOWHEE, an EASTERN TOWHEE and a LARK BUNTING were seen in Harlan
County.
In western Nebraska on the 9th in Garden County, a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH and
a YELLOW- BREASTED CHAT were found in Crescent Lake NWR. On the 10th at
Crescent Lake NWR, a pair of CLARK'S GREBES and 3 WHITE-FACED IBIS were
seen. In Keith County on the 9th, a PEREGRINE FALCON, a WHIMBREL, a
CALIFORNIA GULL, 2 CASPIAN TERNS and 8 COMMON TERNS were seen at Lake
McConaughy.
On the 9th, a MOUNTAIN PLOVER was seen in southwest Kimball County and 2
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS were found at Oliver Reservoir.
In Lincoln County on the 10th at the North Platte sewage lagoons 50 EARED
GREBES, 3 WESTERN GREBES, 700 WILSON'S PHALAROPES and 3 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES were found.
In Iowa on the 11th south of Council Bluffs, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, a
PIPING PLOVER, 8 STILT SANDPIPERS, 11 WILSON'S PHALAROPES, a RUDDY
TURNSTONE, 8 BLACK TERNS and a BOBOLINK were found at the Mid-American
south ponds. On the 11th, at the Black Squirrel Marsh on the north side
of Highway 92, a DUNLIN was seen.
