Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Thursday, May 25th.

In western Nebraska in Sheridan County on the 19th, a HOODED WARBLER was
seen in the Gordon Cemetery. On the 19th near Lakeside WESTERN GREBES,
AMERICAN BITTERNS, BLACK- CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, WHITE-FACED IBIS,
CINNAMON TEAL, BLACK-NECKED STILTS, LONG-BILLED CURLEWS and BLACK TERNS
were found along Highway 2.

In Scotts Bluff County on the 23rd, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD and a
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK were visiting a yard south of Gering.

In Sioux County on the 20th, PYGMY NUTHATCHES, CORDILLERAN FLYCATCHER,
PLUMBEOUS VIREO, WESTERN TANAGER and a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK were seen in
Sowbelly Canyon. Also on the 20th, a BREWER'S SPARROW, a ROCK WREN and a
SAY'S PHOEBE were seen in Toadstool Park. On the 21st, 3 LEWIS'S
WOODPECKERS were found in West Ash Canyon in Dawes County.

In eastern Nebraska in Lancaster County on the 23rd, 2 HENSLOW'S SPARROWS
were still present at Spring Creek Prairie south of Denton. Also seen
there on the 23rd, were an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, a LEAST FLYCATCHER and
GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS. On the 21st at Branched Oak Lake 9 WHIMBRELS, 2
AMERICAN AVOCETS, 11 RUDDY TURNSTONES and a SANDERLING were found. On the
21st 14 species of shorebirds were seen at Wagontrain SRA including: 2
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 8 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 300
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 2 DUNLINS and 30 WILSON'S PHALAROPES. Also on the
21st, a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, a RUDDY TURNSTONE, 400 WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPERS, 3 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and a LONG- BILLED DOWITCHER were
found at Pawnee Lake. In Gage County on the 24th, 2 YELLOW-BILLED
CUCKOOS and 2 NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS were found at Homestead National
Monument.

In Washington County on the 22nd, 19 SEDGE WRENS, a SHARP-TAILED SPARROW
and several GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were found at Boyer Chute NWR, and on the
21st, a BELL'S VIREO was seen there. On the 22nd, 4 GREAT EGRETS were
spotted at Nathan's Lake.

In Sarpy County on the 19th in Fontenelle Forest a an OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER, a SEDGE WREN and 12 species of warblers were seen including a
CANADA WARBLER, a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, a WILSON'S WARBLER and 3 MOURNING
WARBLERS. On the 21st in Fontenelle Forest, a YELLOW- CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON, a PEREGRINE FALCON, a MAGNOLIA WARBLER and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER
were seen. On the 20th at Chalco Hills Recreation Area, 7 WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS, 2 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS and 2 CANADA WARBLERS were found.
On the 25th, 2 LEAST TERNS were seen at the pond at the #2 hole at
Tregaron Golf Course.

In Dixon County on the 21st at Ponca State Park an EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, 2
WOOD THRUSHES, 3 YELLOW-THROATED VIREOS and AMERICAN REDSTARTS were found.
On the 20th, an UPLAND SANDPIPER and a BLUE GROSBEAK were seen on a farm
northwest of Wakefield, and on the 19th, an EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, a LEAST
FLYCATCHER, a MAGNOLIA WARBLER and a CANADA WARBLER were found there.

In Clay County on the 21st, a SNOWY PLOVER was found at Harvard WPA.
Also seen in the eastern Rainwater Basin area on the 21st were a CATTLE
EGRET, a SANDHILL CRANE and 20 species of shorebirds including: 102
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 20 SANDERLINGS, 802
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 2 DUNLINS, and 6 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.

In Platte County on the 20th, 7 RUDDY TURNSTONES were spotted at Lake
North, north of Columbus.
