Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, September 1st.
In western Nebraska on the 31st in Kimball County the following species
were found at Oliver Reservoir: a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER, a DUSKY
FLYCATCHER, 8 CASSIN'S VIREOS, a ROCK WREN, 3; ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, 9
TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS, 5 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES, 7 MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLERS,
47 WILSON'S WARBLERS and a LAZULI BUNTING. On the 27th, a PLUMBEOUS VIREO
and an immature VIRGINIA'S WARBLER were also seen at Oliver Reservoir, and
on
the 26th, 2 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen there. On the 27th in the
Bushnell Cemetery, 2 TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS, a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and a
WESTERN TANAGER were seen. Also on the 27th, a SAGE THRASHER and an
immature VIRGINIA'S WARBLER were seen south of I-80 Exit #1.
In Scotts Bluff County on the 26th, a CLARK'S GREBE and 4 LONG-BILLED
CURLEWS were found at Lake Alice and a CLARK'S GREBE and a COMMON TERN were
seen at Lake Minatare.
In eastern Nebraska in Clay County on the 27th, 4 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES
were seen in Sutton. On the 27th, 4 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS were found
at the Geneva Cemetery. On the 26th and 27th, other species seen
throughout the eastern Rainwater Basin were: 35 GREAT EGRETS, 4 SNOWY
EGRETS, 30 plegadis IBIS sp., 6 species of ducks including a HOODED
MERGANSER, 12 species of shorebirds including a WESTERN SANDPIPER, 6
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, a LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHER and 9 COMMON SNIPES.
In Cass County on the 27th, 8 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen in
Elmwood. These include three adults and 5 juvenile birds.
In Sarpy County on the 30th at Schramm State Park, a YELLOW-BELLIED
FLYCATCHER, a LEAST FLYCATCHER, a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, 8 RED-EYED
VIREOS, 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 4 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS and a SCARLET
TANAGER were found. South of Bellevue on the 30th, 2 BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPERS were seen at the sod farm east of Offutt AFB. On September
1st in Bellevue, 15 RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS, an OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER, a NASHVILLE WARBLER, a WILSON'S WARBLER and a CANADA WARBLER
were found in Fontenelle Forest.
In Washington County on the 27th, a LEAST FLYCATCHER, 3 WILSON'S
WARBLERS, a NASHVILLE WARBLER and a CANADA WARBLER were seen at Neale Woods
on the Missouri River Ecology Trail.
In central Nebraska in Kearney County on the 27th, 13 SORAS and a
LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE were found at Jensen WPA. On the 27th, a GREAT EGRET,
9 plegadis IBIS sp., 8 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 WILSON'S PHALAROPES and 55
BLACK TERNS were seen at Youngson WPA. In Adams County on the 27th, a
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a CATTLE EGRET, 7 species of shorebirds
including 24 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and a STILT SANDPIPER were found at Kenesaw
WPA. In northwestern Adams County, a COOPER'S HAWK and SEDGE WRENS were
found.
