Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, April 4th.

In eastern Nebraska in Saline County on the 1st, a female BARROW'S
GOLDENEYE was seen at Walnut Creek SRA north of Crete. In Seward County
on the 1st, a male GREATER SCAUP was seen at Twin Lakes SRA.

In Lancaster County on the 4th, a HERMIT THRUSH was found in a plum
thicket at Holmes Lake in Lincoln. On the 2nd, a SANDHILL CRANE was seen
flying over Spring Creek Prairie south of Denton. Also on the 2nd, 10
GREEN-WINGED TEAL and an EASTERN PHOEBE were found there.

In Dodge County on the 2nd, 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen along the
cut-off ditch west of Fremont. Also on the 2nd, a HORNED GREBE was found
on the sandpit at the elevator west of Fremont.

In the eastern Rainwater Basin on Mar 31st and Apr. 1st , large numbers of
REDHEADS were concentrated at 6 basins, the largest being an estimated
34,000 at Harvard Marsh in Clay County. A male EURASIAN WIGEON was found
at Hansen WPA 3 miles north of Ong, also in Clay County. Shorebirds seen
in the eastern Rainwater Basin over the week-end were: 117 KILDEER, 29
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 11 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and 2 COMMON SNIPE.

In central Nebraska in Phelps County on March 31st, a male and female
CINNAMON TEAL were seen at Sacramento Wilcox Wildlife Area. On the 1st,
2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were seen flying over the WMA north of Bertrand.

In Gosper County on the 1st, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was spotted 2.5 miles
southeast of Johnson Lake. At Johnson Lake on the 1st, a DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANT, 110 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, 9 BALD EAGLES, 4000
RING-BILLED GULLS, 6 HERRING GULLS and 5 PINE SISKINS were found.

In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County on the 2nd, 2 EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVES were spotted in Mitchell. Also on the 2nd on a pond east
of South Morrill Rd., 2 CINNAMON TEAL, 2 GREATER SCAUP and 2 GREAT-TAILED
GRACKLES were seen.

In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 4th, a COMMON LOON, hundreds of
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 165 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS and 29 RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS were seen at Lake Manawa.
