Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, May 11th. Audubon is sponsoring Bird
Walks every Sunday morning in May in Fontenelle Forest. Meet at 7:30 AM
in the Gifford Road parking lot.
In western Nebraska in Kimball County on the 9th, a DUSKY FLYCATCHER and a
GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE were found at Oliver Reservoir.
In Scotts Bluff County on the 9th, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and 19
WHITE-FACED IBIS were found west of Mitchell and a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE
was seen in Mitchell. Also on the 9th, a BLUE GROSBEAK was seen at West
Lawn Cemetery in Gering. On the 10th, a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, a LAZULI
BUNTING, a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and 3 PINE SISKINS were seen in Mitchell.
In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County on the 10th in Bellevue, 6 SWAINSON'S
THRUSHES, a VEERY, 10 species of warblers (including 2 GOLDEN-WINGED, 2
BLACKBURNIAN, 4 CHESTNUT-SIDED and an OVENBIRD) and a SCARLET TANAGER were
seen in Child's Hollow in Fontenelle Forest. On the 8th, a BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER was spotted in Fontenelle on the upland boardwalk. On the 10th,
a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, 4 OVENBIRDS, 2
KENTUCKY WARBLERS and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH were found at Schramm State
Park. On the 11th, 2 PILEATED WOODPECKERS were found on Walking Club
trail in Fontenelle Forest.
In Douglas County on the 9th in Omaha, a WESTERN GREBE, 7 GREAT EGRETS and
a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER were spotted at Zorinsky Lake.
In Dodge County from the 8th-10th, a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen at a
feeder west of Fremont. On the 10th in Fremont, an EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, a
WOOD THRUSH, a SWAINSON'S THRUSH and a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER were found in
Hormel Park. On the 8th, a SNOWY EGRET, 10 CATTLE EGRETS and 3 WILSON'S
PHALAROPES were seen on a farm northwest of Ames.
In central Nebraska in Harlan County on the 8th, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and
a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK were seen at Harlan Reservoir. Also on the 8th,
a COMMON MERGANSER was found on the river below the dam.
In Buffalo County on the 6th, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen at a
feeder west of Kearney. On the 10th, 16 LEAST SANDPIPERS and a
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen at Kearney Lake.
