Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, May 22nd.

In eastern Nebraska in Platte County on the 20th, 32 SANDERLINGS and 9
HUDSONIAN GODWITS were seen at Lake Babcock north of Columbus.

In the eastern Rainwater Basin from May 18-20, 21 species of shorebirds
were found including: 98 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 17 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 2
MARBLED GODWITS, 1,472 WHITE- RUMPED SANDPIPERS and 190 BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPERS. Other notable sightings were 16 WHITE-FACED IBIS, a SANDHILL
CRANE (greater), a LEAST TERN and a WILLOW FLYCATCHER.

In Fillmore County on the 17th, 12 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 2 MARBLED
GODWITS, 6 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 2 SANDERLINGS and 68 BLACK TERNS were found 3
miles east of Sutton. On the 18th, a male and female CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER were found in the Geneva cemetery. Also on the 18th at Wilkins
WPA, a WHITE-FACED IBIS, 26 SNOW GEESE, 26 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 17
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were found. On the 20th, 7 AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVERS were seen along Highway 81 near Geneva.

In Thayer County on the 20th, 1,000 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen
along County Rd. 4 west of Bruning.

In Sarpy County on the 21st, 5 GREAT EGRETS and 2 LEAST BITTERNS were found
at La Platte Bottoms south of Offutt AFB, and on the 20th, a BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, DUNLINS and a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER were found there.

In western Douglas County on the 22nd, 24 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were
seen in a field on the south side of Highway 36 about a half mile east of
Highway 275.

In western Nebraska on the 19th in Garden County, a pair of CLARK'S
GREBES and a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER were found at Crescent Lake NWR.

In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 18th, 3 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE, 2 PIPING PLOVERS, 3 LEAST TERNS and 7 CASPIAN TERNS were found at
the south Mid-American pond, and an EARED GREBE and a WESTERN GREBE were seen
on the north pond.
