Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, June 18th.
In western Nebraska on the 17th in Keith County at Lake Ogallala, a
PACIFIC LOON, 21 CLARK'S GREBES, and a singing LEAST FLYCATCHER were found.
At Lake McConaughy on the 17th, a GREAT EGRET, a CINNAMON TEAL, 18
WILLETS, 4 MARBLED GODWITS, a CALIFORNIA GULL, 2 HERRING GULLS and 3 LEAST
TERNS were seen.
In Kimball County on the 16th a HERRING GULL and a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
were found at Oliver Reservoir. Also on the 16th, 4 MOUNTAIN PLOVERS and a
CASSIN'S SPARROW were seen in southwest Kimball County.
In Scotts Bluff County on the 16th, a PYGMY NUTHATCH, 61 RED CROSSBILLS and
a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL were seen at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center.
Also on the 16th, 5 CINNAMON TEAL and a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were found
at Kiowa WMA.
In Sheridan County on the 16th, a BLACK-NECKED STILT was spotted between
Lakeside and Antioch.
In Garden County on the 16th, a LONG-EARED OWL was seen at Crescent Lake NWR.
In central Nebraska on the 16th in Hall County at Hannon WPA, 29 UPLAND
SANDPIPERS were found.
In Buffalo County on the 16th, 2 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS, 4 WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS, 2 BELL'S VIREOS and 5 BOBOLINKS were seen.
In eastern Nebraska in Clay County on the 15th, 2 AMERICAN BITTERNS, a
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT- HERON and a WILLET were found at Harvard WPA. Also on
the 15th, 4 GREAT EGRETS and a CATTLE EGRET were seen at Kissinger WPA.
Other birds found at basins in the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 15th
were: 12 - 16 WHITE-FACED IBIS, a ROSS'S GOOSE, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 6
HOODED MERGANSERS.
On the 16th on the Thurston/Dakota County line, a pair of ACADIAN
FLYCATCHERS, a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, a CERULEAN WARBLER and a SCARLET
TANAGER were found at the Ashford Scout Camp.
In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 14th, a COMMON LOON and 7 pairs of
PIPING PLOVERS were seen at the Mid-American north pond. South of
Bartlett on the 14th, 50 GREAT EGRETS and 25 CATTLE EGRETS were seen at
Forney Lake coming in to roost in the evening.
