Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Saturday, July 14th.
In western Nebraska in Morrill County on the 9th, a BLACK RAIL was heard
calling in a marsh at 4 AM. Also on the 9th, 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES
were spotted on the west edge of Bridgeport.
In Kimball County on the 9th, 2 adult and 3 young MOUNTAIN PLOVERS were seen.
In Keith County on the 9th, 3 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen in Ogallala.
At Lake McConaughy on the 9th, 45 PIPING PLOVERS, 4 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 2
STILT SANDPIPERS, 21 CALIFORNIA GULLS, 5 HERRING GULLS, 3 CASPIAN TERNS and
5 LEAST TERNS were found. Also on the 9th, a COMMON LOON and a
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER were seen at Lake Ogallala.
In Cherry County on the 13th, a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, a BLACK and WHITE
WARBLER and a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO were found at the Historical Bryan
Bridge southeast of Valentine. On the 12th, a CLARK'S GREBE, 23 WESTERN
GREBES and 5 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were found at Merritt Reservoir.
On the 11th in Dawes County, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, a WESTERN TANAGER and
about 20 RED CROSSBILLS were found at Chadron State Park.
In central Nebraska on the 14th in Buffalo County, 2 LEAST TERNS, a
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO and BELL'S VIREOS were found.
In eastern Nebraska on the 9th in Douglas County, a EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVE was seen in Omaha at 116th St. and Prairie Lane Drive near
the tennis courts.
