Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, July 16th.
In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County on the 15th, a LESSER
GOLDFINCH was seen at the feeder at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center feeder.
In Sheridan County on the 13th and 14th, WHITE-FACED IBIS were seen a mile
west of Lakeside and 3.5 miles northeast of Lakeside. Several more
WHITE-FACED IBIS were spotted 2 miles east of Lakeside and 3 were seen at
Willy Lake, 1.5 miles east of Bingham.
In eastern Nebraska on the 15th, 2 GLOSSY IBIS and 78 WHITE-FACED IBIS were
seen at Harvard WPA. Also on the 15th, 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS, 22
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 3 SORAS and a SANDHILL CRANE were found at
Harvard. Other birds found in the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 14thand
15th were: 15 GREAT EGRETS, a SNOWY EGRET, a LITTLE BLUE HERON, 135
CATTLE EGRETS, 9 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 334 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 3 SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS, 4 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 22 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 7 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, a STILT SANDPIPER, 8 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS and a COMMON SNIPE.
In Iowa south of Bartlett on the 15th, 45 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 70
GREAT EGRETS, 28 CATTLE EGRETS and 4 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen
at Forney Lake. Also spotted at Forney Lake was a male AMERICAN BLACK
DUCK, an unusual summer sighting.
