Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, July 31st. The next Birdline update will
be on Friday, August 17th.
In western Nebraska on the 31st in southern Sioux County, a FERRUGINOUS
HAWK, a GOLDEN EAGLE, a BURROWING OWL, a CASSIN'S KINGBIRD, a ROCK WREN,
a SAGE THRASHER, a BREWER'S SPARROW and a CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR were
found on Wind Springs Ranch.
In eastern Nebraska in the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 28th, 14
species of shorebirds were found including: 301 STILT SANDPIPERS, 5
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS and 30 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Other birds seen
there were : an AMERICAN BITTERN, 17 GREAT EGRETS, a LITTLE BLUE HERON, 7
CATTLE EGRETS, 2 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and 14 WHITE-FACED IBIS.
In Richardson County on the 28th, a PARULA WARBLER and 6 SUMMER TANAGERS
were found at Indian Cave State Park.
In central Nebraska on the 30th in Harlan County, 12 SNOWY EGRETS and up to
50 GREAT EGRETS were seen at the Alma boat dock.
In Phelps County on the 29th at Funk Lagoon, 3 GREAT EGRETS, 17
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 5 AMERICAN AVOCETS, 34 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 7
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 15 STILT SANDPIPERS were found. Also on the 29th,
a BLUE GROSBEAK was seen 2 miles east of Funk Lagoon in Kearney County.
On the 21st in Buffalo County at Rowe Sanctuary, a LEAST FLYCATCHER, 6
WILLOW FLYCATCHERS and 17 BOBOLINKS were found.
In Adams County on the 21st, a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen at
Kenesaw WPA.
In Iowa, south of Bartlett, 57 GREAT EGRETS, 31 CATTLE EGRETS and 3
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen at Forney Lake.
