Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, August 27th.
In western Nebraska in Sioux County on the 25th, the following birds were
found on Wind Springs Ranch: a SHORT-EARED OWL, a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER,
a DUSKY FLYCATCHER, a SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 6 AMERICAN REDSTARTS, an
OVENBIRD, a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, 2 MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLERS, 28 WILSON'S
WARBLERS, 3 CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS and 5 LAZULI BUNTINGS.
In Kimball County on the 24th, a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen in the
Bushnell Cemetery. At Oliver Reservoir on the 24th, a DUSKY FLYCATCHER,
4 CASSIN'S VIREOS, 2 TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS, 4 MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLERS, a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and 4 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS were found.
In Scotts Bluff County on the 24th, a RED-NECKED GREBE and a CASSIN'S
KINGBIRD were seen at Lake Alice.
In central Nebraska in Phelps County on the 26th at Johnson WPA, a HORNED
GREBE, a RED- NECKED GREBE, 2 EARED GREBES, 13 dark Ibis sp., 25 AMERICAN
AVOCETS, a WESTERN SANDPIPER, 80 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 9 STILT SANDPIPERS
were found. At Funk Lagoon on the 26th, 3 GREAT EGRETS, 3 BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS, and 11 COMMON SNIPES were seen.
In eastern Nebraska in Burt County on the 25th, a GREAT EGRET, 65 TURKEY
VULTURES, 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER and 3 WILSON'S
WARBLERS were found at Summit Lake. Also on the 25th, a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER was spotted at the Tekamah sewage lagoon.
On the 26th in Washington County between Blair and Fort Calhoun the
following species were seen: a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, a BELL'S VIREO, 2
NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 3 WILSON'S WARBLERS and a SCARLET TANAGER.
In Dixon County on the 26th, a SCARLET TANAGER was seen in a yard
northwest of Wakefield.
In Sarpy County on the 26th in Bellevue, a male MOURNING WARBLER was
spotted on Stream trail in Fontenelle Forest.
In Iowa in Council Bluffs on the 25th, 2 PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS were seen
in a yard on the east side of town.
