Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, December 14th.
In eastern Nebraska in Dixon County on the 13th, a SHORT-EARED OWL was
seen in a farm field northwest of Wakefield. On the 8th in Ponca State
Park, a TUNDRA SWAN and a CAROLINA WREN were found.
In Douglas County an immature BALTIMORE ORIOLE has been coming to a
peanut feeder near 114thand West Center Road in Omaha. It was last seen
on the 11th.
In Colfax County on the 9th, 2 adult BALD EAGLES, 2 BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES,
a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, 3 BROWN CREEPERS and several YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS were seen.
In Dodge County on the 9th, a MERLIN was spotted. On the 13th a LESSER
YELLOWLEGS was seen in a wet area north of Highway 91 between Nickerson
and the Elkhorn River.
In Lancaster County on the 14th, an EASTERN TOWHEE and PINE SISKINS were
seen at the feeders at Spring Creek Prairie south of Denton.
In central Nebraska on the 9th in Frontier County, a male CINNAMON TEAL,
2 adult BALD EAGLES, a NORTHERN HARRIER, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, 35
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS and 62 CEDAR WAXWINGS were found at Medicine Creek
Reservoir. Also on the 9th, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was found 4.5 miles
southwest of Eustis and 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen 11.5 miles east of
Stockville.
In Buffalo County, 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen on the 6th on the
UNK campus in Kearney. In Shelton on the 5th, a BROWN CREEPER was spotted.
