Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, December 18th.

In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 16th the Lake McConaughy CBC
tallied a record high count of 103 species. Highlights include: a COMMON
LOON, 2 HORNED GREBES, a RED-NECKED GREBE, an EARED GREBE, an AMERICAN
WHITE PELICAN, a male TUFTED DUCK, a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, an adult MEW
GULL, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, a SNOWY OWL, 12 LONG-EARED OWLS, a
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 4 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 30 SNOW BUNTINGS and a
COMMON REDPOLL. On the 17th at Lake Ogallala, 26 TRUMPETER SWANS and a
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were found. Also on the 17th, a SNOWY OWL was spotted
at the west end of Lake McConaughy.

In Garden County on the 17th, 9 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS and a NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRD were seen at Clear Creek marshes.

On the 15th in Scotts Bluff County, a CALIFORNIA GULL and 2 THAYER'S GULLS
were found at Lake Minatare.

In eastern Nebraska on the 17th in Lancaster County, a LONG-TAILED DUCK
was seen at the Pfizer pond on the east side of the Pfizer Animal Health
Plant on W. Cornhusker Rd. in Lincoln.

In Sarpy County on the 18th in Bellevue, a PINE WARBLER visited the
Birdline feeders and birdbath. On the 16th, the Omaha CBC tallied 65
species including 14 waterfowl species. Record high numbers were seen
for HOODED MERGANSER (21), BUFFLEHEAD (33), RUDDY DUCK (327), RING-BILLED
GULL (798), HERRING GULL (5) and CEDAR WAXWING (295). A RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK, 30 BALD EAGLES and 2 COMMON SNIPES were also seen on the Omaha CBC.

In York County on the 14th, a BALD EAGLE, a KILLDEER, a NORTHERN SHRIKE,
11 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 36 MEADOWLARKS (sp.) were seen 2 miles east of
York. Also on the 14th, 10 PINE SISKINS were seen at a feeder in York.

In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 18th, 2 PIED-BILLED GREBES, a
RING-NECKED DUCK, a RED- BREASTED MERGANSER and 237 RUDDY DUCKS were seen
at Lake Manawa. Also on the 18th, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 11 HOODED MERGANSERS and
a HERRING GULL were found at the MidAmerican south pond.
