Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Thursday, January 18th.
In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 14th at Lake Ogallala, a
ROSS'S GOOSE, 37 TRUMPETER SWANS, a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 79 BALD
EAGLES, 2 MEW GULLS, 4 CALIFORNIA GULLS, 11 THAYER'S GULLS, 6 GLAUCOUS
GULLS and 11 SNOW BUNTINGS were found. Also on the 14th, 36 BALD EAGLES and
a GLAUCOUS GULL were seen on Lake McConaughy, and 4 KILLDEER, 11 MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRDS, 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and 23 BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS were seen below
Keystone Dam. On the 14th, 9 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 9 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and
2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were found in the grassy area at the west end of Lake McConaughy.
In Lincoln County on the 14th, 2 ROSS'S GEESE, 37 BALD EAGLES, a THAYER'S
GULL and 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS were found at Sutherland Reservoir.
In central Nebraska on the 15th in Harlan County, 2 SNOW GEESE, a
NORTHERN SHOVELER, 4 NORTHERN HARRIERS, a COOPER'S HAWK, a FERRUGINOUS
HAWK, a PRAIRIE FALCON, 5 MOURNING DOVES, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, 17 EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS, 57 CEDAR WAXWINGS, 8 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 10 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and
45 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS were seen at Harlan Reservoir.
In eastern Nebraska in Lancaster County on the 12th, a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE
was seen on Agnew Road near Branched Oak Lake.
In Dodge County on the 12th, a SHORT-EARED OWL was spotted at the
intersection of Roads 12 and S.
In Douglas County on the 11th and 12th, 5 RED CROSSBILLS visited the
feeders at Neale Woods Nature Center.
In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 15th, an AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, a
NORTHERN PINTAIL and 5 BALD EAGLES were seen at the Mid-American south pond.
