Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Sunday, February 4th.

In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 3rd at Lake Ogallala, 9 GREAT
BLUE HERONS, 43 TRUMPETER SWANS, 1 TUNDRA SWAN, 21 GREATER SCAUP, 272
AMERICAN COOTS, 3 THAYER'S GULLS, 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS and a PURPLE FINCH were
found. At Lake McConaughy 2 THAYER'S GULLS and 4 GLAUCOUS GULLS were seen.
At the Clear Creek Marshes on the 3rd, 6 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and
11 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen. Also on the 3rd, an adult female BARROW'S
GOLDENEYE, a KILLDEER and a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL were found below the
Keystone diversion dam. A EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen in Ogallala,
also on the 3rd.

In Scotts Bluff County on the 2nd, several DARK-EYED JUNCOS including
WHITE-WINGED and GRAY- HEADED were seen at Riverside Zoo in Scottsbluff.

In Kimball County on the 27th, 6 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen in
Kimball. In Banner County on the 27th, 3 NORTHERN SHRIKES were found.
In Scotts Bluff County on the 27th, a GREAT BLUE HERON, a SNOW GOOSE, 3
HOODED MERGANSERS and a MARSH WREN were seen at Lake Alice. Also on the
27th, 3 LESSER SCAUP were found at the Scotts Bluff sewage lagoon and 3
YELLOW- HEADED BLACKBIRDS were seen at the Gering sewage lagoon. Raptors
seen in the 3 counties on the 27th were: 1 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, 1
FERRUGINOUS HAWK, 14 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 5 GOLDEN EAGLES, 3 MERLINS and 3
PRAIRIE FALCONS.

In central Nebraska in Gosper County on the 28th, 3 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 4
NORTHERN PINTAILS, 45 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 NORTHERN SHRIKES, 90 AMERICAN
ROBINS and 15 CEDAR WAXWINGS were seen at Johnson Lake. In northeastern
Gosper County 70 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen. On the 28th in
northwestern Phelps County, a COOPER'S HAWK, 350 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and
a BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD were found.

In Loup County on the 3rd, a SNOW GOOSE, 8 GREEN-WINGED TEAL and 26 BALD
EAGLES were spotted at Calamus Reservoir.

In eastern Nebraska in Knox County on the 28th the following birds were
found: an adult GOLDEN EAGLE 4 miles west and 1 mile north of Center; 7
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS between Creighton and Niobrara; 2 adult NORTHERN SHRIKES
at Niobrara Marsh; an adult male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD with 50
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS in a cattle feed-yard south of Standing Bear
Bridge; and a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER at Niobrara State Park.

In Dodge County on the 4th, 4 GREAT BLUE HERONS, a BALD EAGLE and 10
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen at Fremont Lakes SRA.
