Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, January 7th.
In eastern Nebraska on the 5th in Knox County, 3 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were
found in Niobrara State Park on the north side of the road across from
the lower end of Deer Creek Handicapped Trail and a LONG-EARED OWL was seen
at the upper end of the trail. Also seen in Niobrara State Park was a
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER. On the 5th, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was found in
Niobrara Marsh.
In Douglas County on the 1st and 2nd, a flock of about 16 WHITE-WINGED
CROSSBILLS were found in Hillcrest Cemetery at 56th and Center Streets in
Omaha. On the 5th, 6 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were still being found
there. On the 4th at Carter Lake, 2 WOOD DUCKS and 2 GADWALLS were seen at
the Kiwanis Park Lagoon on Abbott Drive.
On the 7th in Dixon County, a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL visited a feeder at
the Wakefield school. On the 4th, a MERLIN was spotted 2 miles west of
Wakefield. On the 5th, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in Dixon County.
On the 4th in Lancaster County, 3 COMMON SNIPES were seen at the west end
of Pfizer Pond on W. Cornhusker Road in Lincoln. On the 3rd in Lincoln,
6 PINE SISKINS were seen at the Chet Ager Nature Center feeders in
Pioneers Park.
In York County on the 5th, a PRAIRIE FALCON was seen near Waco. Also on
the 5th, 3 RED- BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 4 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS and 50 AMERICAN
ROBINS were seen in the York cemetery.
In central Nebraska in northwest Boone County on the 4th, a GOLDEN EAGLE,
4 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, a COMMON SNIPE, a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, 14
BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS and 7 GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were found.
In Rock County on the 5th, 3 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen at a
feeder in Bassett.
In Harlan County on the 1st, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, a MERLIN, 80 WILD
TURKEYS, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, 60 CEDAR WAXWINGS and 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS
were found around Harlan Reservoir.
In western Nebraska on the 6th in Dawes County, 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES
were spotted on wires at the intersection of 4th Street and Chadron Ave. in
Chadron.
