Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, February 19th.
In central Nebraska in Harlan County on the 17th the following birds were
seen at Harlan Reservoir: 4 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 50 ROSS'S GEESE with
20,000 SNOW GEESE, about 20,000 COMMON MERGANSERS and 200 BALD EAGLES.
In Rock County on the 18th, 3 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS visited a feeder in Bassett.
In Buffalo County on the 16th, 2 PRAIRIE FALCONS were spotted near Fort
Kearny. On the 17th, several hundred SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying
over Rowe Sanctuary.
In western Nebraska in Scottsbluff County on the 14th, 5 RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES, a RUBY- CROWNED KINGLET and a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET were seen
in Carter Canyon. Also on the 14th, a SAGE THRASHER was still being seen
at Scotts Bluff National Monument, and 18 BALD EAGLES were found near the
river south of Scotts Bluff. On the 14th, 2 FERRUGINOUS HAWKS were seen
at the prairie dog towns at Kiowa WMA. On the 17th, 3 EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVES were seen in Mitchell.
On the 18th, 5 GRAY PARTRIDGES were seen in northern Scottsbluff County.
In Sioux County on the 18th, 5 AMERICAN REDPOLLS were seen on Wind
Springs Ranch.
In Box Butte County on the 18th, 4 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen in Alliance.
In eastern Nebraska in Lancaster County on the 16th at Branched Oak Lake,
50 GREATER WHITE- FRONTED GEESE, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 2 BELTED
KINGFISHERS and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were found. On the 16th, a CAROLINA
WREN was seen in Pioneers Park in Lincoln. On the 19th, a SPOTTED TOWHEE
and a PURPLE FINCH were seen at Spring Creek Prairie south of Denton.
In Dixon County on the 15th a COMMON REDPOLL visited a feeder southwest
of Wakefield. Also on the 15th, a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL was still
coming to the Wakefield School feeder.
In Cedar County on the 17th, a LONG-TAILED DUCK was spotted above Gavin's
Point Dam. On Lake Yankton on the 17th, 9 species of waterfowl were seen
on Lake Yankton including 25 GREEN-WINGED TEAL.
In Washington County on the 17th, 23 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were found at Boyer
Chute NWR by the Sauger parking lot. Also on the 17th, a COOPER'S HAWK
was seen at Nathan's Lake.
In Douglas County on the 17th, 2 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen in Curtis
Acres subdivision 2 miles west of Waterloo. In Sarpy County on the 16th
in Bellevue, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen in Fontenelle Forest.
In York County on the 16th, a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH and PINE SISKINS were
found in Greenwood Cemetery in York.
