Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, March 11th.
In eastern Nebraska in Douglas County on the 9th, a VARIED THRUSH visited
a yard at 52nd and Hamilton in Omaha. Also on the 9th, 4 WHITE -WINGED
CROSSBILLS came to a feeder southwest of Methodist Hospital.
In Sarpy County on the 9th in Bellevue, a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and a
PINE WARBLER came to the Birdline feeders. On the 10th at Haworth Park,
5 BALD EAGLES and 150 RING-BILLED GULLS were found.
In Lancaster County on the 3rd at Branched Oak Lake, 15 BALD EAGLES and a
GOLDEN EAGLE were seen at Branched Oak Lake. In a field southwest of NW
126th and Fletcher Road on the 3rd, a PRAIRIE FALCON was seen harassing
ducks and geese. Also on the 3rd, a HERMIT THRUSH was found in a wooded
creek 1/4 mile west of NW 126th and Superior. On the 5th at Branched Oak
Lake, several ROSS'S GEESE, 3,000 SNOW GEESE, 8 species of ducks and a
NORTHERN SHRIKE were found.
In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 2nd, a BRANT was seen with a
mixed flock of geese behind Grandpa's Steakhouse in Kearney. On the
10th, about 100,000 SNOW GEESE and 3,000 SANDHILL CRANES were seen 2 miles
east of the Gibbon I-80 exit.
In Phelps County on the 10th, 10,000 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and a RUSTY
BLACKBIRD were found 1.5 miles southeast of the Overton Platte River Bridge.
In Rock County on the 5th, several WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were still
coming to feeders in Bassett. In Brown County on the 5th, 15
SHARP-TAILED GROUSE were spotted at South Pine WMA south of Long Pine.
In Harlan County on the 10th, about 30 SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying
over Alma.
In western Nebraska on the 11th in Scotts Bluff County, a LARK SPARROW
was seen southeast of Gering at the intersection of County Roads S and 27.
On the 10th, 6 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and 80 PINE SISKINS came to a feeder
in Mitchell. Also on the 10th, 23 BALD EAGLES were seen south of
Scottsbluff near the Platte River bridge.
