Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, March 27th.
In central Nebraska in Phelps County on the 23rd, 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and 3 WILSON'S PHALAROPES were
found at Funk Lagoon.
In Buffalo County on the 23rd, a WHOOPING CRANE was found near 150th and
Denman Rd. in southeastern Hall County. About 278,000 SANDHILL CRANES
were reported to be in Nebraska on the 23rd. On the 23rd, several
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were spotted near the fairgrounds in Kearney.
In Harlan County on the 23rd, 20 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 12 species of
ducks including 13 HOODED MERGANSERS, 5 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 8 HERRING
GULLS and 4 PINE SISKINS were seen and Harlan County Reservoir.
In eastern Nebraska in Lancaster County on the 23rd, 3 DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS were seen at Branched Oak Lake. On the 20th, 3 TURKEY
VULTURES were seen flying over Lincoln.
In Douglas County on the 24th, 13 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were found at
Cunningham Lake in northeast Omaha. In Sarpy County on the 23rd in
Bellevue, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen in Fontenelle Forest.
In Burt County on the 24th, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen at Summit Lake
west of Tekamah.
In Washington County on the 25th, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were found at
DeSoto NWR on the north beach. On the 25th, 5 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 13
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 250 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, 93 ROSS'S
GEESE, 120 AMERICAN COOTS and a FRANKLIN'S GULL were seen at Noble's Lake
just east of DeSoto NWR.
In Dixon County on the 26th, 2 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen at the Wakefield
school feeders and on the 25th, a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL was seen there.
In Clay County on the 23rd, a ROSS'S GOOSE and a SHORT-EARED OWL were seen
at Harvard Marsh.
In western Nebraska on the 26th in Dawes County, 2 CASSIN'S FINCHES were
seen at a feeder 6 miles south of Chadron.
In Iowa at Lake Manawa, 12 species of waterfowl were present including 17
HOODED MERGANSERS, 5 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and hundreds of CANVASBACKS.
Nine FRANKLIN'S GULLS were also seen with several thousand RING-BILLED GULLS.
