Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, May 20th.
In eastern Nebraska in Madison County on the 19th, a CAPE MAY WARBLER, a
BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, several WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and a PINE SISKIN
were found at the cemetery on Maple St. in Norfolk. In Knox County on
the 18th, a CAPE MAY WARBLER was seen 5.5 miles north of Creighton. Also
on the 18th at the Niobrara Marsh, a WESTERN GREBE, a PIPING PLOVER, 2
BLACK- BELLIED PLOVERS, 12 RUDDY TURNSTONES and 3 SANDERLINGS were found.
In Stanton County on the 18th, a NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW was seen
at Wood Duck WMA, and 2 SPRAGUE'S PIPITS were found near there.
In Platte County on the 19th at Lake Babcock/Lake North a WESTERN GREBE,
8 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS, 3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS and a
RUDDY TURNSTONE were seen.
In Douglas County on the 17th at a mudflat at 168th St. and Highway 36 in
northwest Omaha, a WHITE- FACED IBIS, 6 HUDSONIAN GODWITS and 7 DUNLIN were
found and on the 19th, a GREAT EGRET and 3 HOODED MERGANSERS were seen. On
the 19th, at Towl Park (95th and Center St), a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was
spotted and a CAPE MAY WARBLER was seen there on the 17th. On the 18th and
19th, a LAZULI BUNTING visited a feeder in western Douglas Co. In Sarpy
County on the 18th in Bellevue, a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and a LOUISIANA
WATERTHRUSH were seen in Fontenelle Forest.
In Burt County on the 17th at Summit Lake, 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 3
SANDERLINGS, 35 DUNLIN, 31 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and a BELL'S VIREO were seen.
In Polk County on the 19th, a BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, a
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER and a MOURNING WARBLER were found in Buckley Park in
Stromsburg. In Butler County on the 17th, a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER and a
MOURNING WARBLERS were seen.
In Pawnee County on the 18th, a LITTLE BLUE HERON, 5 GREATER PRAIRIE
CHICKENS and 2 NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS were found at Burchard Lake SRA. In
Richardson County on the 14th and 15th at Indian Cave State Park, a
PILEATED WOODPECKER and a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER were seen on the lower area
near the cave.
In Lancaster County on the 18th in Wilderness Park, 6 EASTERN
WOOD-PEWEES, a MOURNING WARBLER and a SCARLET TANAGER were seen. On the
17th at the west end of Pawnee Lake, 3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 36 DUNLIN, a
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 8 CASPIAN TERNS and 2 COMMON
TERNS were found. On the 18th, a WHITE-FACED IBIS was seen at Pawnee Lake.
In the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 18th, 21 BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS, 5 WHITE-FACED IBIS, 22 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 4 AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVERS and 115 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found.
In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluffs County on the 17th at Lake Minatare,
a RED KNOT, 2 COMMON TERNS and a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER were seen. On the
17th in the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, a WORM-EATING WARBLER, a HOODED
WARBLER and a MOURNING WARBLER were seen. Also on the 17th, a BLACK-NECKED
STILT was found at the Scottsbluff sewage lagoons, and a PLUMBEOUS VIREO
was seen at Scotts Bluff National Monument. In Kimball County on the
17th, a CLARK'S GREBE and a DUSKY FLYCATCHER were spotted at Oliver
Reservoir.
