Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, May 28th.
In eastern Nebraska in Douglas County on the 26th, 3 BLACK-NECKED STILTS
were found at the wetlands south of Highway 36 on 168th St., but could
not be found on the 27th. On the 28th, a GREAT EGRET and a BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER were seen at the wetlands. On the 27th north of Cunningham Lake,
a BOBOLINK was seen. Also on the 27th, a CERULEAN WARBLER was seen on
the north side of Hummel Park. On the 25th at Zorinsky Lake, a COMMON
LOON and a SANDERLING were seen near the dam on 156th Street. In Sarpy
County on the 26th at Schramm State Park, 5 KENTUCKY WARBLERS and 3 SCARLET
TANAGERS were found. In Bellevue on the 25th, an ALDER FLYCATCHER, a
WILLOW FLYCATCHER and a CANADA WARBLER were found in Fontenelle Forest.
In the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 27th the following species were
found: 4 GREAT EGRETS, 15 CATTLE EGRETS, 12 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 8
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, a BLACK- NECKED STILT (Sandpiper WMA, Fillmore
Co.), 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES (Waco WPA, York Co.), 12 BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPERS (near Verona, Clay Co.), 3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES (2 at Harvard
Marsh, Clay Co., 1 at Sinninger WPA, York Co.) and 3 BLUE GROSBEAKS.
In Lancaster County on the 27th, 80 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 3
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 3 CASPIAN TERNS were seen at Branched Oak Lake.
In Burt County on the 23rd, a PIPING PLOVER and a DUNLIN were found at
Summit Lake and on the 24th, a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen there.
In Cass County on the 26th, a CASPIAN TERN, a BELL'S VIREO and a VESPER
SPARROW were seen at the Schilling Wildlife Refuge.
In Knox County on the 25th, a LAZULI BUNTING was seen west of Center.
Also on the 25th, a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was spotted south of Verdigre.
In Antelope County on the 25th, a MERLIN and a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD were
seen near Ash Fall State Park.
In Madison County on the 26th, 3 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in the
Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk. In Dixon County on the 27th, 28 BOBOLINKS
were seen west of Fahrenholz Ponds.
In Dodge County on the 27th in Fremont, a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was found
in Hormel Park.
In central Nebraska in Rock County on the 24th, a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL
continued to visit a feeder in Bassett.
In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluffs County on the 27th, 2 WHITE-FACED
IBIS and a pair of CINNAMON TEAL were seen at Kiowa WMA. On the 25th, 4
WHITE-FACED IBIS were seen at Winter's Creek Lake and WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS
were seen at Scotts Bluff National Monument. On the 23rd, several
CALIFORNIA GULLS were found at Lake Alice. In Sioux County on the 24th,
2 PLUMBEOUS VIREOS were found at Gilbert Baker WMA in Monroe Canyon and
several flocks of PINYON JAYS were seen in Smiley Canyon WMA.
In Lincoln County on the 22nd, a SNOWY EGRET was seen at the North Platte
sewage lagoons. On the 24th, a pair of EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen
at the North Platte Zoo Park.
