Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, July 24th.

In eastern Nebraska in Lancaster County on the 20th the following species
were seen at Pawnee Lake: 35 GREAT BLUE HERONS, 193 KILLDEER, 2 STILT
SANDPIPERS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 5 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 4 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, 24 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and 2 BLACK TERNS.
At Branched Oak Lake on the 20th, 12 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 4 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 11 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 28 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 14 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, 8 STILT SANDPIPERS and 15 RING-BILLED GULLS were found. On the
24th, a hen GREATER PRAIRIE CHICKEN and 7 half grown chicks were seen at
Spring Creek Prairie south of Denton.

In Sarpy County on the 22nd at Schramm Park, 12 LEAST TERNS and about 200
shorebirds including PECTORAL SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER and SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER were seen on the Platte River.

In Douglas County on the 24th, a WILLOW FLYCATCHER was seen and heard at
the north end of Cunningham Lake on Pawnee Road.

In central Nebraska in Harlan County on the 18th, 50 GREAT BLUE HERONS,
44 GREAT EGRETS, a LITTLE BLUE HERON, an AMERICAN AVOCET, a GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, a FRANKLIN'S GULL and a PEREGRINE
FALCON were found at Harlan Reservoir. Also on the 18th, a COOPER'S
HAWK, 7 BELL'S VIREOS and a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT were seen west of Highway
183 and south of the Republican River.

In Buffalo County on the 17th, 2 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS and a BOBOLINK were
seen at Audubon Rowe Sanctuary.

In western Nebraska on the 20th in Scotts Bluff County, a GOLDEN EAGLE and
10 BURROWING OWLS were seen at a prairie dog town south of Lyman. On the
20th east of Kiowa WMA, a pair of BLACK- NECKED STILTS were seen.
