Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, Oct. 2nd.

In western Nebraska on the 28th in Scotts Bluff County, a LONG-TAILED
DUCK was found at Winter's Creek Lake. On the 29th, 2 WESTERN TANAGERS and
a DARK-EYED JUNCO were seen in Riverside Park in Scottsbluff. Also on
the 29th, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen along Highway 92, and a ROUGH- LEGGED
HAWK was seen south of Morrill. On the 27th, 3 PYGMY NUTHATCHES and a
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD were seen at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center.

In central Nebraska on the 29th in Loup County, 2 adult BALD EAGLES, 2
GREATER YELLOWLEGS and thousands of FRANKLIN'S GULLS were found at Calamus
Reservoir. In Valley County on the 29th, 3 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were
seen in Ord.

In eastern Nebraska on the 2nd in Lancaster County, thousands of
SWAINSON'S HAWKS were reported in a field a mile east of Malcolm. On the
28th at Pioneers Park, 10 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, 7 NASHVILLE WARBLERS and
a BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER were seen. On the 28th, a YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER was found on a utility pole between Branched Oak Lake and Pawnee
Lake. Also on the 28th the following species were seen on the north side
of Branched Oak Lake: 143 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, an OSPREY, a
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 12 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 8 STILT SANDPIPERS, 20
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and a CASPIAN TERN.

In Douglas County on the 2nd in Omaha, a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD is still
coming to feeders at 90th and Maple Streets. In Sarpy County on the 29th
in Bellevue, an OSPREY and a PILEATED WOODPECKER were seen in Fontenelle Forest.

In Knox County on the 1st at Niobrara, a GREAT EGRET, 2 adult BALD
EAGLES, 2 kettles of 557 SWAINSON'S HAWKS, about 30,000 FRANKLIN'S GULLS
and 5 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen along the Missouri River.

In Dixon County on the 29th, 3 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 6 NASHVILLE
WARBLERS, several LINCOLN'S SPARROWS and 2 SPOTTED TOWHEES were seen
northwest of Wakefield.

In Iowa northwest of Crescent on the 2nd, over 800 SWAINSON'S HAWKS were
spotted in fields. Also on the 2nd, a BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER was
seen at Hitchcock Nature Area and on the 1st, a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET was
seen there.
