Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, Oct. 9th.
In western Nebraska on the 4th in Scotts Bluff County, a female
BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was seen in a Mitchell backyard. On the 5th,
the LONG-TAILED DUCK was found again at Winter's Creek Lake, and 2 PRAIRIE
FALCONS were also seen there. On the 8th, 25 SANDHILL CRANES were
spotted flying over Gering.
On the 5th in Kimball County at Oliver Reservoir the following species
were seen: an adult BROAD-WINGED HAWK, 4 AMERICAN AVOCETS, a GRAY
CATBIRD, a WILSON'S WARBLER and 4 SPOTTED TOWHEES. On the 5th at the
Bushnell Cemetery, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE and 3 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES
were found.
In central Nebraska on the 5th in Garfield County, a LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHER, a WILSON'S SNIPE, 3 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS and 2 FIELD SPARROWS
were found in Burwell.
On the 6th in Harlan County, 6 GREAT EGRETS and an OSPREY were seen at
Harlan Reservoir.
In eastern Nebraska on the 5th in Lancaster County at Cracker Barrel
Marsh the following species were found: 19 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 3 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 5 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a STILT SANDPIPER, 5 WILSON'S SNIPES,
4 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, a SEDGE WREN and a SAVANNAH SPARROW. On the 5th
at Wilderness Park, 25 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS and 15 NASHVILLE WARBLERS
were seen. Also on the 5th at Branched Oak Lake, an OSPREY, a GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, a STILT SANDPIPER, 4 LEAST SANDPIPERS,
20 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 3 SPOTTED TOWHEES were seen.
In Sarpy County on the 5th south of Offutt AFB, 12 GREAT EGRETS were seen
in sod fields on Harlan Lewis Rd. and Missouri River Rd. In Douglas County
on the 2nd in Omaha, 7 SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying over 72nd and Maple Streets.
