Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, Oct. 16th.
In western Nebraska on the 14th in Scotts Bluff County, 6 COMMON
MERGANSERS were seen in the outlet between the two Alice Lakes, and about
2,000 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on Big Lake Alice. At Little Lake Alice
on the 13th, 2 WESTERN GREBES and 3 HOODED MERGANSERS were found. Also on
the 13th, a hundred REDHEADS, 2 CANVASBACKS and 7 BUFFLEHEADS were seen at
Winter's Creek Lake.
In Sioux County in the week of the 7th, a RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was seen at
Wind Springs Ranch.
In central Nebraska on the 12th in Greeley County, a PRAIRIE FALCON was
seen on the west side of Scotia.
In Sherman County on the 13th, 4 WESTERN GREBES and 30 AMERICAN AVOCETS
were seen at Sherman Reservoir. On the 12th, a late WESTERN KINGBIRD was
found in the northeast corner of Sherman County.
In Buffalo County on the 13th, 310 SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying over
the Platte River south of Gibbon.
In eastern Nebraska on the 11th in Pierce County, a SABINE'S GULL was
spotted on the west side of Willow Creek Reservoir.
In southern Knox County on the 13th, 105 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at a
small farm pond.
In Lancaster County on the 13th at Arbor Lake, 2 LECONTE'S SPARROWS, a
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, a SWAMP SPARROW and a SAVANNAH SPARROW were found. On
the 13th on North 27th and I-80 at Cracker Barrel Marsh, 3 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 10 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS and 13 WILSON'S SNIPES were found. On the 8th south of Denton,
17 GREATER PRAIRIE CHICKENS were found at Spring Creek Prairie.
In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 16th, 3 COMMON LOONS were found at
Lake Manawa.
