Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, Dec. 13th.
In eastern Nebraska in Cedar County on the 11th, a first winter GLAUCOUS
GULL was seen at the spillway at Gavin's Point Dam. Also seen in the
area were a HOODED MERGANSER, a COOPER'S HAWK and a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER.
In Dixon County on the 9th, a male and female PURPLE FINCH visited the
school feeder in Wakefield.
In central Nebraska in Phelps County on the 8th, a NORTHERN SHRIKE and
about 3,000 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen at Funk Lagoon.
In Kearney County on the 8th, a MERLIN was seen 3 miles north of the east
end of Axtell, and a hundred LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen 2 miles east of
Funk Lagoon.
In Buffalo County on the 8th, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD was spotted at the south
end of Kearney along the hike-bike trail.
In Harlan County on the 12th, a FRANKLIN'S GULL and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were
seen near Alma.
In western Nebraska on the 9th in Dundy County, 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES
were seen at Rock Creek Lake SRA north of Parks.
In Chase County on the 9th, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen along Highway 61
south of Enders Reservoir, and a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was found at Enders
Reservoir SRA.
In McPherson County on the 10th, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was spotted in Tryon.
In Perkins County on the 10th, 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were seen along
Highway 61.
There are four Christmas Bird Counts being held in Nebraska this weekend
as follows: Scottsbluff on the 14th, contact Alice Kenitz, 308-436-2959;
DeSoto NWR on the 14th, contact Jerry Toll, 402-453-9239; Branched Oak
Lake on the 14th, contact Joe Gubanyi, 402-643-7316, Lake McConaughy on
the 15th, meet at the Valentino's Restaurant at 7 PM Saturday in Ogallala.
