Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, Dec. 18th.

In western Nebraska on the 16th in Deuel County, a juvenile "Black" BRANT
was spotted with Lesser CANADA GEESE on Lake Chappell.

On the 16th in Keith County, a male TUFTED DUCK, a SURF SCOTER, 3
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and a GRAY CATBIRD were seen at Lake Ogallala, and a
second basic MEW GULL, juvenile GLAUCOUS GULL and a SNOWY OWL were seen at
Lake McConaughy. On the 15th, 108 species were tallied on the Lake
McConaughy CBC. Highlights were: PACIFIC LOON and RED-NECKED GREBE (Lake
McConaughy); BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (below Keystone diversion dam); a
THAYER'S GULL, an ICELAND GULL and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (all on Lake
Ogallala), a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE (feeder in Ogallala), a HERMIT THRUSH and
14 CASSIN'S FINCHES. On the 14th along the Keystone Canal between Roscoe
Road and Lake Ogallala, a PRAIRIE FALCON and 6 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were
found. Also on the 14th, a FERRUGINOUS HAWK was seen 4 miles west of Paxton.

In Garden County on the 14th, a WHITE-WINGED DOVE was seen in Oshkosh.

In eastern Nebraska in Lancaster County on the 14th, the Branched Oak
Lake CBC counted 68 species including: ROSS'S GEESE, a MERLIN, LONG-EARED
OWLS, a BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, a GRAY CATBIRD, a WINTER WREN, an EASTERN
TOWHEE, a FOX SPARROW and a SWAMP SPARROW.

In Dixon County on the 16th, a PINE SISKIN visited the school feeder in
Wakefield. On the 14th, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen at 868 Road west of
583 Avenue.

In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 14th, a WINTER WREN was seen
1.5 miles west of Fort Kearney. Also on the 14th, a HOODED MERGANSER was
seen behind Grandpa's Steakhouse.

In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on 16th, 4 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen at
Lake Manawa.
