Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Sunday, Dec. 29th.
In eastern Nebraska in on the 28th in Douglas County, a PRAIRIE FALCON
was seen at 149th and K Streets in Omaha. On the 24th, a COMMON REDPOLL
visited a feeder in Elkhorn, and on the 23rd, a FOX SPARROW was seen there.
In Seward County on the 24th, a HERMIT THRUSH was seen in a yard in Seward.
In Otoe County on the 19th, 40 BALD EAGLES were seen a mile north of
Nebraska City along Highway 75 feeding on 2 dead deer.
In central Nebraska in Hall County on the 21st, the Grand Island CBC
tallied 62 species. Highlights include: HORNED GREBE, BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 4 WILSON'S SNIPES, 2 EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVES, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH and BREWER'S BLACKBIRD.
In Harlan County on the 23rd, a FERRUGINOUS HAWK was spotted along the
road to Fisherman's Gate just south of the Republican River and west of
Harlan reservoir. At Harlan Dam on the 23rd, 11 BALD EAGLES were seen.
In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County on the 14th the Scottsbluff
CBC tallied 70 species. Highlights include: FERRUGINOUS HAWK, 2 MERLINS,
2 PRAIRIE FALCONS, 2 WILSON'S SNIPES, 4 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES, 5 PYGMY
NUTHATCHES, a MARSH WREN, 9 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES, 45 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and
8 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS.
