Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, Jan. 14th.
In western Nebraska on the 5th in Keith County at Lake McConaughy the
following species were seen: 5 TRUMPETER SWANS, 60 GREATER SCAUP, 6
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, an adult MEW GULL, 2 CALIFORNIA GULLS and 5 THAYER'S
GULLS. Also on the 5th, a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was seen at a feeder in Ogallala.
In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County on the 7th in Bellevue, a
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and an EASTERN BLUEBIRD were seen on lowland trails in
Fontenelle Forest. Also seen in Fontenelle Forest on the 7th, were a
RED-HEADED WOODPECKER and a WINTER WREN in Child's Hollow.
In Douglas County on the 8th in Omaha, a BARRED OWL was found in Towl Park.
In Butler County on the 8th, 2 NORTHERN SHRIKES were seen.
In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 11th, an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN
was seen on the ice at lake Manawa. At Missouri Valley on the 11th,
about 30,000 SNOW GEESE were found at DeSoto NWR. A SCREECH OWL was also
seen on the 11th at the DeSoto Visitor's Center.
