Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, Feb. 3, 2003.
In eastern Nebraska on the 1st in Sarpy County in Bellevue, a PILEATED
WOODPECKER was seen just north of Gifford Rd and the Wetlands Center
parking lot in Fontenelle Forest, and another was heard in the distance.
On the 2nd, a PILEATED WOODPECKER was heard calling south of the Great
Marsh, also in Fontenelle Forest.
In Central Nebraska on the 1st in Buffalo County, 3 KILLDEER, a WILSON'S
SNIPE and 9 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen along the hike/bike trail behind
Fairfield Inn in Kearney. Also on the 1st on the lake behind Grandpa's
Steakhouse just south of Kearney, 16 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, 5
ROSS'S GEESE and 11 SANDHILL CRANES were seen.
On January 29th in Harlan County, an AMERICAN WIGEON, a GREATER SCAUP and a
CANVASBACK were found at the Alma sewage pond.
In Western Nebraska on the 1st in Morrill County, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was
spotted east of Bayard. Also on the 1st, 3 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were seen
north of Bridgeport.
